Just dig out a gold coin and call in reinforcements with the Root: Underworld Hirelings Pack. This expansion adds a dynamic layer of strategy to Leder Games’ acclaimed asymmetric board game, giving players new ways to influence the map, adapt to the table, and explore bold tactical choices. Hirelings are versatile allied factions that can be added to Root at any player count. When playing with fewer players, hirelings shine by introducing additional pieces to the board, filling out the Woodland and increasing tension in key clearings. These added forces create new fronts of conflict, block movement, protect vital paths, and give players more meaningful decisions on every turn. The result is a tighter, more interactive game that feels just as rich and contested as higher player-count sessions. With more players at the table, the hirelings evolve. Some hireling cards flip over to reveal powerful special abilities that players can claim and wield. These abilities open up surprising strategies, clever combos, and alternative paths to victory, encouraging experimentation and rewarding smart timing. Whether you’re leveraging a hireling’s strength to bolster your position or denying an opponent a key advantage, these allies keep the game fresh and unpredictable. The Underworld Hirelings Pack is fully modular, allowing you to mix and match hirelings with other Root expansions to customize the experience for your group. It preserves the asymmetric brilliance Root is known for while enhancing balance, replayability, and strategic variety. This is an expansion and requires a copy of the Root board game to play. Ideal for veteran players and newcomers alike, Root: Underworld Hirelings Pack makes the Woodland wilder, more crowded, and more exciting than ever.
